At showtime we have been providing LAMDA  training to students for a number of years with all students going through to pass their relevant LAMDA exams with flying colours. But what is LAMDA and what does your child get out of it?

LAMDA, or the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, offer various exams in both solo and group settings. These include contemporary and Shakespearean acting, performing arts, miming and devising. Each exam usually consists of the students' performance followed by some brief direction by the examiner and ending with a short discussion about the performance and the media it is from. LAMDA give lots of guidance to the prospective tutors for the exams in order to achieve the best results

Doing these exams are often extremely beneficial in more than a few ways. First of all, a student gains a great deal more insight into the intricacies of their trade and therefore can appreciate more of the culture and media surrounding it. In this more formal setting the students' technical skills and artistry can be further refined and true talent can be uncovered. Finally, having this talent and passion being officially recognised can be great for ones motivation in the industry. It certainly helps that the results of these examinations will also grant UCAS points which, at the highest level, can be equivalent to an A-level qualification.

As previously mentioned many of our students have taken part and succeeded in these courses before, specifically the bronze, silver and gold Shakespeare awards. In which our students were trained expertly on the more technically advanced side of performing Shakespeare. The training proves significant if the student wants to continue with performing into their further education as many drama schools and universities will require a Shakespearean monologue for their auditions, which many of our former students have used their experience in these exams to get through.

We are currently running LAMDA classes at our Sevenoaks school, taught by our wonderful teacher, Ziggy, who is teaching both one to one and group lessons. We’d love to see your child come along and try it out!
